And a few new photos

I took some photos of the crew at the lake and just hangin' out in the backyard in the last few days. Thanks for looking. :) I am awful proud of my kids.

Jacob - posing for his senior photos, apparently. :) This kid is SUCH a camera freak. He is so photogenic.

Ella and Mama Kitty - our outside kitty. She came to our house last summer, had babies, and never left. The kids adore her. Plus, she catches a ton of mice.

My Boden. I have to take photos like this, by sneaking up on him. He runs at the camera full-speed when he sees it, and I rarely get a really good photo of him.

My Ella, sporting her shades and lifejacket. :) Summer is here!!

Today's Layout

I did this page for Lex's The Right Accent challenge at Catscrap - I did some accdenting with blue to set off my hydrangea. :) Full credits can be seen by visiting my gallery.

True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse: My new vamp obsession

So, since I've read all 4 books in the Twilight series, and New Moon doesn't come out for several more months, I had to find a new vampire series to immerse myself in. My friend Amber recommended the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, and, WOW!! I love these books. I poured through the first 9 so quickly! I actually bought all of them, and I haven't done that in years.

Anyway, there is a show on HBO based on the books - True Blood. We don't get HBO, and although I begged Eric, it isn't that smart so I agreed that we shouldn't get it. I mean, $16 a month?

So, I am getting the episodes through Netflix. We have watched the first 4 episodes so far, and I have disc 3 with episodes 5 & 6 to watch tonight.

It's a good show, although Anna Paquin kinda drives me batty. Her accent and demeanor is a little over the top. And, I wish they had cast a bit hunkier dudes as the vamps. These guys are no Edward. But - they are much more adult books than Twilight, more graphic and violent, and lots of sex. Eric watched last week with me and he was like ummmm, you rented vampire porn? Ha!

McD's and shopping

We are in need of some major grocery shopping! Our fridge is SO empty. So I convinced hubby that we need to go to Vermillion tonight, eat at McD's, and get some groceries. He agreed quickly, mostly because he's in the doghouse, but also partially b/c he knows we have zero groceries.

Just so you know - I am pretty excited about eating at McDonald's. I mean, the main reason I picked it is because they have the Ice Age movie toys there and Miss Ella is nuts about those movies. But also - who can resist those french fries?! YUM. And, not having to clean up after a meal tonight sounds amazing.

I'm so excited for groceries. So, so excited.

To Do!

I have a few things I have been putting off accomplishing. These are the kind of things that do not cause trouble when they go undone, but, are the kind of things that bug the hell out of me since I know they are sitting there, waiting for my attention.

1. Printing photos: I am pretty behind. I like having photos in my kids' albums. I haven't printed photos since October 2o07. Funny thing - that is when I started digiscrapping. Coincidence? I think not. Now, that is a huge task since I'm almost 2 years behind. Plus, having 3 kids to print for makes it hard. I take probably 300 photos a month, minimum. So, what I decided to do is pick 2 photos of each child per month, unless there are some really outstanding shots or big events in there, and just print those.

2. Delete photos: Again, this is because I take too many photos. I just shoot, shoot, shoot and I get a ton of crappy ones and a few good ones. And I never delete the crappy ones. I just pop that little SD card into my laptop and there they go. So, I need to delete. I have a lot of blurry, back-of-the-head and repeat photos that need to take a hike.

3. Deal with Mozy: I need to signup for Mozy, for a year I think. I need something to back this laptop up. I have an EHD for our desktop but I never use that stupid thing anymore.

Recent Layouts

Here are a few of my more recent layouts. I have been looking back at how much my style has changed, even just in the last 6 months. Crazy. I am almost always happy with how my pages turn out now, whereas 6 months ago I usually wished I could change something when I was done. For credits, check out my galleries. :)

I like this one because it was a silly little moment, but one that we will remember forever now that it's on paper. And I love these new frames that Shen made last week. Super cool.

I like this one because it is simple, and it makes me happy. And, I adore this photo. My mom made those chairs. She is so, so talented. Also - it wasn't a posed shot, which I dig. I did this for the Scrap Mash challenge at CatScrap. I had to count my blessings, use orange on my page, use flowers, and my title had to be made up of 2 fonts.

I love this one because I think this photo is fabulous. And I took it myself! ;) I kept this page really simple and I had to stop myself from adding more crap to it.

I love this one because I pushed myself. I rarely use a colored paper on my pages.

Salty Lady

This is so funny. I got it from my girl Crystal's blog. Anyway - I LOVE salt. Love, love love that shit. Can't get enough. Eric yells at me nearly ever meal for putting too much salt on my food.

You Are Salty
There's something about you that makes the world a better place.
You make life more colorful, more flavorful, and more vibrant.

You get along well with others. You always have something to add.
Without realizing it, people can become very addicted to you.

Photography II

Another (Blogger is being silly and won't let me add any more to that last post):

This is Jacob's first contact with a toad. :)

Photography

Eric got us (ME) a Nikon D40 in April. Our little Canon had died on us months prior - the flash didn't work anymore. I was dying for a little bit upgraded model. I take hundreds of photos a week. So, I'm loving this sucker. I'm learning more and more about it, but, even on the auto setting it is pretty rockin'.

I have also b
een messing with Adobe Lightroom. WOW. Talk about flippin' cool. You can find a bazillion amazing free presets for it, and there are a lot of amazing presets you can buy. It doesn't take much to take a photo from "ok" to "holy shit that's cool!"

Here are a few recent photos I'm proud of:

Finally - a beautiful weekend!

The weather yesterday (and today) was/is just gorgeous. I am kind of a baby about heat, so, 75-80 is about as hot as I like to get. So, yesterday was perfect.

Ella went camping with Eric's parents and his sister Monica. So, Friday it was just me and the boys. It was so fun to be with just the 2 of them, with some 2 on 1 time. ;) Saturday morning we packed up and joined everyone at Newton Hills for the day - eating and playing, and spending time at the beach. We got some sun but it wasn't blazing hot. My kids are just nuts about the water. Boden in particular is fearless, which is both good and bad!

On the beach note ---- I got bitten by a LEECH!!!!!!!!!! Gross. I'm not usually grossed out by bugs and that kind of thing, but, this leech being attached to my foot was pretty nasty. Bah.

Anyway, last night I hauled 2 sleeping twinks home and I relaxed the rest of the night. It was quiet and peaceful and kinda what I needed. I have had a migraine since Friday, and peace was perfect for me.

And on the migraine note --- I have been noticing that my migraines are usually covering only the right side of my head/face. Kinda weird. When I showered yesterday it hurt to wash my face, because my whole face just hurts.

So, now Jacob and Boden and I are hanging out waiting for Eric and Ella to come home from camping. Not sure what we'll do today. My headache is hanging in so I might see if I can snag a nap when they get home.

But - tonight we have disc 3 of True Blood: Season 1 to watch, episodes 5 & 6 I think. I loved the books and the show is pretty good too. Makes me wish we had HBO!!

I need to update my header and blog template. Eesh. Enough blue face.

Forever ago

I haven't blogged in months. Life has been crazy, although I can't name anything specifically. Summer has started so Eric's schedule is all over the place. I hate the heat, and the humidity, and the long hours he is away. Summer is not my favorite season.

Ella has her dance recital at the end of May, and I could not be more proud of how well she did. She was very afraid of the stage at her first practice held on it. She asked us not to make her do her recital, and to call her aunties and grandparents and "cancel the recital." Eric and I didn't know what to do. I wanted so badly to see her perform, and we had spent quite a bit of money on her costume and monthly tuition, plus tights and all that happy crap. Well, we talked up her recital like crazy for the next few days, and I found her dance music online and she practiced and "performed" for us at home a lot. That actually made all the difference, and she rocked her dress rehearsal and 2 performances. It was so fun and I was in tears watching her. My little girl, all grown up!

She is a little bored at home now that preschool is done, I think. I am trying my best to keep her learning, keep her practicing her letters, that kind of thing. We are thinking of starting an allowance type thing with her. So, we'll see. She has a current obsession with Littlest Pet Shop. Eeesh. She is such a smart peanut, and wants to be outside all the time. I think we are going to start her on learning to ride her bike without training wheels this summer. We got the pool up and she LOVES to swim underwater. I wish I could get her in swimming lessons - I think she'd love it!

Jacob and Boden are almost 2. :( It breaks my heart in ways I can't explain. There is something so sad for me, knowing that they are no longer babies, and the times that they climb in my lap for a cuddle are becoming fewer and fewer. I think knowing we will never have a little baby in our house again is hard for me. They really are growing up too fast for me to handle. I find myself getting sad about their birthday, much more bummed out than their 1st birthday for some reason. They are such little miracles, and there were many days and weeks and months where we did not know if we would ever meet them, let alone celebrate birthdays. I need to focus on that instead of getting down that my little guys are growing up.

So, J & B aren't really talking much yet. They can do some animal sounds, some sign language, and the occasional dada or mama, but that is it. They are getting speech therapy and I'ms taying focused on helping them learn rather than feeling guilty for the fact that they aren't speaking yet. Easier said than done.

We finally got a fence, and that has made all the difference in playing outside. I no longer worry that if I turn my head to look at one kid, one of the other 2 will run off into the woods and I'll lose them forever. We also did some landscaping and Eric and I are so excited about how the backyard looks now. It is so much more enjoyable to spend time outside!

I'm still doing a lot of scrapbooking, but I don't have as much time for it, and I have cut back on a few creative teams. That was a hard decision to make, and I still don't know if it was the right one. But, it's done now. And it is pretty fun to shop for supplies now and then and scrap some pages without worrying about deadlines.
